What Cities Used it First?
In New York City at Crystal Palace is where Elisha Otis made his very first safety elevator demonstration. In this demonstration, Elisha was standing on the elevator up in the air suspended by a rope. He asked them to cut it and right as he did that his safety break kept him from crashing to the ground. At that moment people realized how important this invention was.
The worlds first safety elevator for passengers was out into a New York store in 1857. Soon after that it evolved into making architects think that this invention can help them build bigger and taller buildings. Then in 1885, the very first skyscraper was built in Chicago, Illinois. It was only 10 stories high but it was definitely a start for the future and Elisha Otis safety brake elevator was the thing that made it possible.
